Jackson Township, NJ – In a tragic incident, 38-year-old Louis Gargiso has been charged with the murder of his elderly roommate, 74-year-old Robert Sunris. The incident occurred early Friday morning, July 19th, at the residence they shared on Maple Street.
According to a joint statement released by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew Kunz, authorities responded to a report of an unconscious male shortly before 6:00 am. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Sunris with a stab wound. A knife was also discovered near the body.
A subsequent autopsy by the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death to be a stab wound, ruling the manner a homicide. Mr. Gargiso was apprehended at the scene and is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Gargiso has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon in the death of Robert Sunris. He’s being held at Ocean County Jail in Toms River.
The investigation into the motive for the stabbing is ongoing. No further details have been released by authorities at this time.
