Coney Island, NYC – A disturbing incident has rocked the Coney Island community as police sources allege that two NYC migrants raped a woman at knifepoint while her boyfriend was assaulted when he tried to intervene. The attack, which occurred on Sunday around 9pm, has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood and reignited concerns about crime and the influx of migrants into the city.
According to law enforcement, the 46-year-old victim and her 34-year-old boyfriend were walking along the boardwalk outside a housing shelter located at Surf Avenue and 16th Street when they were confronted by the two suspects. Armed with a knife, the assailants allegedly threatened the couple before forcing the woman into a secluded area where they proceeded to rape her. The boyfriend, reportedly terrified for his own safety, was hit with an object.
The attackers were identified as Nicaraguan migrant, David Davon-Bonilla, 24, and Mexican migrant Leovando Moreno, 37. Davon-Bonilla reportedly had been living in a migrant shelter on Third Ave that had been converted from a La Quinta Hotel.
The NYPD has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, and detectives are actively investigating the crime. The victim has been offered support services, including counseling and medical care.
This latest assault comes amid a growing debate over the city’s handling of the NYC migrants crisis. Critics argue that the influx of migrants has strained city resources and contributed to a rise in crime, while advocates maintain that the newcomers are fleeing dangerous conditions and deserve compassion.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents and elected officials, with many calling for increased police presence and tougher measures to combat crime. As the investigation unfolds, the community is grappling with the fear and uncertainty that the attack has brought to the neighborhood.
Davon-Bonilla previously has been connected to an attack on a member of the LGBTQ community. He has been charged with first-degree rape, second-degree assault, first-degree sexual abuse, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, and Moreno with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
