Monmouth County, NJ – According to recently released court data compiled from June 2023-24, the towns in Monmouth and Ocean counties that issue the most traffic and parking tickets has been disclosed.

Before the big reveal, here’s some interesting information on issued tickets in the state over the past year – NJ has written 1,879,135 tickets, down 4% from the previous year. The crazy part is that this figure doesn’t include parking or DUI tickets.

NJ also ranks in second place for having the lowest percentage of drivers (5.52%) with speeding tickets on their record. Only Connecticut has drivers that accumulated fewer speeding tickets.

To put it in perspective, the state with the highest percentage of drivers with speeding tickets is Ohio with 14.97%. So, we’re clearly doing some things right.

Monmouth County Parking Tickets

The town with that gets the top honor for giving out the most tickets in Monmouth County, has numbers that are staggering.

This town also shines in another area ticket-wise. Parking enforcement. Failing to pay the meter in this town can lead to fines of $50 or $55, depending on the zone.

And parking without a permit in restricted areas is even more costly with fines of up to $100. Even violating street cleaning regulations can result in a $30 fine. It’s almost like they have a fine for everything.

If you guessed Asbury Park, you get a cookie. Asbury Park has issued over four times as many traffic tickets as its closest competitor, in parking tickets alone.

Asbury Park has also made about $3 million in revenue over the past year from these issued tickets.

  • Freehold:  10,925
  • Keansburg: 5,574
  • Freehold Township: 5,574

Ocean County Parking Tickets

Further inland in Ocean County, towns like Lakewood and Toms River have also seen a rise in speeding ticket issuance. Although, still nowhere near the likes of Asbury Park.

And another thing, an obvious trend emerges when you look at the data – shore towns are making a racket with all these tickets due to limited and timed parking.

  • Point Pleasant Beach: 10,262
  • Seaside Height: 8,726
  • Lakewood: 4,217
  • Toms River: 3,070
  • Seaside Park: 2,272

New Jersey Traffic Tickets Ranked By County

If you think these two central Jersey counties give out a lot of tickets, think again because Monmouth and Ocean County aren’t the worst ‘offenders’ in the state.

Essex County has issued over double the amount of tickets as Monmouth and three times as many as Ocean County with a total of 247,918 tickets issued from 2023-24.
