Somer’s Point, NJ – Three adults and one teenager have been arrested in connection with plotting and carrying out a vicious assault and robbery on an 83-year-old woman just inside of a Acme supermarket in Somer’s Point..
According to local authorities, on October 3rd, the victim was entering the Acme store located on Route 9 around 10:50 a.m. when she was approached by a masked teenager from behind.
Police Chief Robert Somers described the assault, saying the suspect physically assaulted the elderly woman, causing her to fall to the ground and then taking her purse. The teen suspect took off around the back of the store towards Bethel Road.
The victim sustained serious injuries to her face and upper body and was transported to Shore Medical Center for treatment. She has since been released.
Following an investigation, law enforcement officials identified and apprehended the suspects after issuing search warrants at multiple homes and one vehicle in Egg Harbor Township and Atlantic City. The arrested individuals include:
- Maria DeSantis, 60, of Woodbine
- Charles Ogelsby Jr., 23, of Atlantic City
- Emily Labaco, 22, also of Atlantic City
According to the police, they had officers working around the clock to identify the suspects, “The Somers Point Police Department worked diligently around the clock to identify and arrest all those involved in this crime.”
The three adults face multiple charges – conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit theft, use/employing a juvenile to commit a crime, receiving stolen property and Oglesby was also charged with a possessing a defaced firearm.
The adults were taken to the Atlantic County Jail while the juvenile suspect was charged with robbery, and aggravated assault and theft and was brought to the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.
