Monmouth County, NJ – Sheriff, Shaun Golden spoke on NewsNation Dan Abram’s Live about the mystery drone sightings that have been occurring since around November 18th across the state.
Golden has called for the governor to declare a State of Emergency while banning the use of recreational drones during the nighttime hours. He sent a letter to New Jersey’s congressional delegation urging authorities to get the Dept of Defense and other officials involved.
Golden, like many, is concerned and looking to get to the bottom of the startling drone incursions. Golden said, “If, in fact, they are our government drones, let’s just tell our people…But if it’s not our military and these are military-style drones and they’re not from our federal government, then we should all be concerned.”
Kirby told NewsNation, “We continue to urge our governor to press the federal government to put more … resources out here. The only way we’re going to solve this is by the federal government coming in here and doing full investigations as to what these things are, how their movements are made.”
The back and forth between officials and the government has been causing a certain level of hysteria among residents of NJ and other states as reports come in of large, evasive drones that don’t show up on radar, drones turning off their lights when pursued, and the drones not having heat signatures when viewed through an infrared camera.
Meanwhile, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby denied the validity of many drone reports, stating that investigations found many to be manned aircraft and there was no threat:
“We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or a public safety threat, or have a foreign nexus.”
In direct contradiction of officials like Kirby, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh has said in a briefing that the drones are not US miliary.
Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy tried to track the drones using an industrial grade drone on Thursday amid reports of 50 drones coming of the ocean reported by local law enforcement.
Mastronardy was originally of the opinion that the drone sightings may be due to hysteria until, that is, he saw them with his own eyes.
Mastronardy said, “If this is not our military, then it’s even more scary.”
Then Coast Guard officials reported 13 drones following their own vessels in the ocean with reported wing spans of eight feet. And Iranian mothership talk has been making the rounds stoking the fears of residents statewide even further.
NJ Officials, like Sheriff Shaun Golden are calling for legislation to make every drone trackable.
Golden urges anyone with drone reports or videos to contact tips.fbi.gov instead of local law enforcement.
